Yes, the Definitive Edition features two full side missions - Nightmare in North Point and Year of the Snake - that previously had to be downloaded, but that's fairly weak tea for a full $20. The overall feel of the updated version of the game is better than the original for the Xbox 360 and PS3, but it’s not anywhere near as grandiose as some natively developed, recent $59.99 next-gen-console titles, like Destiny or Titanfall, which makes me wonder why I'd pay full price for a port of a two-year-old game. The bumped-up price tag of $59.99 would also disincentivize me, with the original game having retailed for a more-bearable $39.99. None of that would make me run out to buy Sleeping Dogs: The Definitive Edition if I already owned the game for a last-gen console or PC. I also didn’t particularly like the Batman: Arkham City-style brawling controls any longer. Though fighting seemed a tad harder than before, it was still astonishingly easy to defeat opponents controlled by artificial intelligence. I again enjoyed the side missions and sandbox elements to the game, though after having played Grand Theft Auto V last year, I now think Sleeping Dogs is a bit limited. Aiming and shooting your gun while driving remains as difficult as it was in the original version. Cars handle better through curves and don’t slew all over the road. The virtual Hong Kong of this Definitive Edition is a bit more spread-out. The game also somehow “breathes” a bit more in the port over to eighth-generation consoles. You can see shadows and forms in the dark or mist.
